The defensive line position in BYU history is incredibly deep, but once again the best position group came down to just a few teams. In this positional battle I face off with Cougar Center podcast co-host Mitch Harper.
Mitch’s team boasts Chris Hoke, the Pittsburgh Steeler veteran, who was a all conference performer at BYU. Shawn Knight, the NFL journeyman who had 16 sacks in 1986. Rounding out the group is Byron Frisch, former team captain for the Cougars who was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2000.
But This was not Mitch’s title to take, my squad has the best defensive line in the fantasy draft, no doubt. The all-time Mountain West Conference sack leader, a top five NFL draft pick and infamous player who transferred to Oklahoma. Beginning in reverse order, my defensive line starts with CJ Ah You, the man who punched quarterback Bret Engemann. Aside from his off the field issues, Ah You was a great collegiate football player who was a All-Big-12 in his time at OU. Ezekiel ‘Ziggy’ Ansah is an absolute freak of nature, who knows what he could have been if he had played more football previous to his senior year at BYU. Up next is current undefeated MMA heavyweight, Jan Jorgensen. Jan totaled 28.5 sacks at BYU, he also leads the MWC in tackles for loss with 44.
Jorgensen was a master of the pass rush, paired alongside the freakish athleticism of Ansah and Ah You, any team would struggle to pass against this group.
Tomorrow we look into the best linebacker group in the fantasy draft.
