ESPN has been announcing the brackets for 11 of the early-season College Basketball tournaments. Today, the world wide leader announced the tournament bracket for the field BYU will be participating, the CBE Hall of Fame Classic.
It’s a two-day event where all four teams involved will get two games. The CBE Classic will be held at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.
BYU drew the Texas Longhorns for the first night. Then in the other game, Final Four participant from last season, Wichita State will take on DePaul.
Great draw for BYU in this field. Texas was a program last year that had an uncharacteristic season under Rick Barnes. The Horns finished 16-18 and were ousted of the CBI Tournament in round one. Texas will be a young team next season with only two players on their roster being seniors. The rest are freshman or sophomores.
Then we all know about Wichita State from this past season. They had a magical run to the Final Four as an eight-seed. Personally had the chance to see the Shockers up close in the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament in Salt Lake City, they were a tough, physical team who took down BYU’s WCC running mate, Gonzaga. Curious to see how the Shockers replace their gritty point guard leader from a year ago, in Malcolm Armstead.
The Blue Demons of DePaul have been a program that has been an annual bottom feeder of the old Big East. The Demons head to the new basketball-focused Big East, where they are looking to get more than 11 wins in a season for the first time since 2007.
BYU’s matchup with Texas will be on ESPNU at 5:30 p.m. (MT) on ESPNU. If the Cougars advance to the Championship game, the title will be on ESPN2 the following day at 8 p.m. (MT). Third place game will be on ESPNU at 5:30 p.m. (MT).
