The rumors were true, BYU is going to wear royal blue jerseys against Utah on September 21st, 2013. This is the first time BYU will don the royal blue jerseys since the 2009 season.
BYU went to darkest shade of royal blue back in 1999. Since that season BYU has only worn the royal twice and they both took place in the 2009 season. BYU took down Utah and then Oregon State in the Las Vegas Bowl. Those jerseys were a tribute to the 25th anniversary of the National Championship.
BYU’s official Instagram posted a picture with Athletic Director, Tom Holmoe donning the jersey (pictured) the team will wear this season against Utah. The most notable difference from the 2009 royal blue jersey is the Nike Flywire collar.
Hopefully now BYU will build the excitement for fans by offering quality Nike royal blue merchandise. Last year was unfortunate that BYU didn’t offer more black colored gear leading up to the Oregon State game. Smart move by BYU getting this announced now and building up momentum.
It’s pretty clear the significance of the Utah game for BYU this year. It’s a must win. You can’t bring out alternate jerseys and lose. The game has another element of importance now. More than it already had.
