For those that said independence wouldn’t work, Tom Holmoe is doing his best to prove them wrong. BYU announced a home-and-home series with California University at Berkeley. (Cal for you non-scholar folks like me.)
BYU announces two-game football series with Cal. Cougars at Berkley in 2014; in Provo in 2017

BYU will head to Provo on November, 29 of next season and the Golden Bears will return the favor and come to Provo on September 16, 2017. This series is an excellent November game next season and rounds out the 2014 slate very nicely.
BYU last played Cal in the 2005 Las Vegas Bowl when former Cal running back Marshawn Lynch and wide receiver DeSean Jackson took BYU’s defense to town. Cal held off the Cougars for a 35-28 victory. Overall, however, BYU has the all-time series lead 2 games to 1.
USC, Cal, Utah and possibly Stanford (thanks for that rumor, Chris Hill) have all agreed to play BYU in November. Independent scheduling continues to improve and the November scheduling continues to look better and better for the Cougars.
