BYU Basketball: Cagers Tip Season Off Against Weber State

With all the excitement for tomorrow’s BYU Football game against Wisconsin, the Cougar Cagers are getting their season rolling tonight against Weber State.

Big game for BYU.  The Cougars are undefeated all-time against Weber State in Provo, but there’s always intrigue against an in-state foe.

The Wildcats last season won 30 games en route to an appearance in the CIT Final.

Keys to victory tonight:

  • Establish the post early

Get Eric Mika involved early and often.  BYU has the size advantage against the Wildcats, use it to your advantage.  Also, getting confidence in your front court this early in the year can go far moving forward the rest of the year.

  • Hit the open three

BYU’s struggles the past two season from behind the three-point arc are well documented.  Hit your threes.

  • Matt Carlino leads the way

Tyler Haws is going to get his, we know that.  As we’ve said in our BYU Basketball preview show, the Cougars will go as far as Matt Carlino takes them.  Get the season rolling in a positive way to build his confidence that is already blossoming after a great run in the NIT and solid pre-season.

Prediction:  BYU 81, Weber State 64
