2014 West Coast Conference Tournament Predictions

It is officially March Madness time for programs in the West Coast Conference.  The WCC Tournament tips-off today in Las Vegas, at The Orleans Arena.

It’s a wide-open year for the WCC Tournament.  Usually it is Gonzaga or St. Mary’s who are locks to take home the title.  This year we are guaranteed to not see a Gaels-Zags Championship game for the first time since 2008.  The title is up for grabs for many schools looking to stamp their official ticket to the big dance.  BYU is one of those teams who heads to Vegas looking to win their first conference tournament championship since 2001.

Here are my predictions for the 2014 WCC Tournament.  Post your predictions in the comments section or send us a tweet @LawlessRepublic.

First Round

(Games played tonight)

#7 Portland vs. #10 Loyola Marymount

#8 Pacific vs. #9 Santa Clara

#3 San Francisco vs. #6 San Diego

#2 BYU vs. #10 Loyola Marymount

#1 Gonzaga vs. #8 Pacific

#4 Saint Mary’s vs. #5 Pepperdine

#2 BYU vs. #3 San Francisco

#1 Gonzaga vs. #5 Pepperdine

Championship Game

#1 Gonzaga vs. #2 BYU

If BYU can’t win the conference tournament this year, will they ever?  Gonzaga and St. Mary’s are down as we all know.  The biggest hurdle between BYU and a WCC Championship is San Francisco in the semifinals.  The Dons are a matchup problem for BYU.  If BYU gets passed them, the Cougars win it all.  BYU will beat Gonzaga on a neutral setting this year.  The last time these two faced in the WCC Tournament was two years ago in the semifinals.
