2014 NFL Draft: Mel Kiper ranks Kyle Van Noy on his latest Big Board

The NFL Draft process is a funny one isn’t it?  Kyle Van Noy hasn’t played in an actual game since December 27th, 2013, when BYU wrapped up their season in a loss to Washington in the Fight Hunger Bowl.  At the end of the 2013 season, many felt that Van Noy was likely going to be a late 2nd or 3rd-Round selection.  Now?  Van Noy is soaring up draft boards due to his versatility, and many believe Van Noy is a 1st rounder.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper is starting to believe as well.  Kiper put Van Noy in his latest Big Board rankings.  The first time Van Noy has appeared on that list, which is a list of Kiper’s top 25 prospects in the draft.  Van Noy checked in at #25.  Sounds like Kiper and others are finally putting in the tape on KVN and realizing how special of a talent he truly is.

Kiper’s draftnik rival, Todd McShay posted his latest mock draft over on ESPN today as well.  McShay has KVN going to the Chargers in Round 2 at pick #57.

Many, including myself, thought Van Noy wouldn’t reach the draft stock that he had after the 2012 Poinsettia Bowl.  But his stock is back in the first round discussion, which is terrific for Van Noy, and BYU Football.

BYU has never had back-to-back years where a player was taken in the first round of the draft.  Last year of course, Ziggy Ansah went to the Detroit Lions as the 5th overall pick.  Ziggy had eight sacks in his first year in Detroit.

BYU has had multiple players taken in the first round in the same draft, but never back-to-back years.  In 1984, Gordon Hudson and Todd Shell were 1st rounders, along with Steve Young being the #1 pick in the USFL Draft that same year.

Van Noy has been visiting a handful of organizations over the past few weeks.  Today, KVN is in the nations capital visiting the Redskins, and next week he has a visit scheduled with the Atlanta Falcons.  Van Noy already made stops in Jacksonville and Tennessee.

The 2014 NFL Draft is May 8-10 on ESPN and NFL Network.
