Wilstead doesn’t have the same speed or running back instinct as Taysom Hill or even Trent Hosick, but he’s mobile enough that he can certainly escape some pressure and be enough of a threat to run “Go Fast, Go Hard.”
What Wilstead does bring to the table is an incredible arm. I would venture to say that it’s safe to put his arm strength up with any other high school quarterback in the country. He can flat out sling the football.
Check out his highlights here. Wilstead has elite-level arm strength.
As the Cougars head into the 2014 football season, nearly everything hinges upon the health of Taysom Hill. Behind Hill is a former walk-on in Christian Stewart and a walk-on in Hayden Griffits. In 2015, BYU will not have that issue. Wilstead will join Hosick and Tanner Mangum as guys competing for the backup spot behind Hill. Hill, Mangum, Hosick and now Wilstead. That’s a solid group of quarterbacks next season. (Obviously, all of this is pending Wilstead’s mission plans.)
Get excited, Cougar fans. Wilstead is a player.
