During BYU’s State of the Program address on football Media Day, Tom Holmoe and Bronco Mendenhall addressed the improper benefits investigation that surfaced to the public a month ago.
BYU’s internal investigation has already been completed. Now the program is waiting on a response from the NCAA if there are any sanctions. As Tom Holmoe put it, “this isn’t a major issue.” This investigation is on a lower-tier from the NCAA sanctions scale.
We will find out more information from the NCAA in one month.
Mendenhall said he was at complete peace with the situation. Said he was proud of the institution more than ever and amazed at the speed of the investigation stating, “never seen anything like it.”
All this talk about a juicy BYU scandal is much ado about nothing. BYU has moved on from this and is business as usual. Will be fascinating to me if all of this comes down to socks like many believe it is. We will never find out unless the NCAA releases their feedback publicly.
Folks don’t need to worry about major sanctions in this program. BYU can still boast that they are the only AP National Champion to not have any sanctions in their history. That still remains in tact.
