BYU baseball moved up in the West Coast Conference standings after taking two of three games from San Diego.

After dropping game one, BYU baseball rebounded with two-straight victories over No. 19 San Diego over the weekend.

It took an extra inning on Friday night, but the Cougars knocked off the Toreros 9-8 in 10 frames.

BYU baseball fought back from 6-1 and 7-3 deficits to take the win.

“This was a total team effort,” BYU baseball head coach Mike Littlewood said in a press release. “To say I’m proud of the effort is the understatement of the year.”

Brennon Anderson drove in three runs in the victory. Riley Gates struck out three in 1.2 innings, picking up the win to improve to 3-1 on the year.

“This was a great weekend for BYU baseball,” Littlewood said in another press release. “To go on the road and win a series against a team like San Diego is pretty special.”

BYU baseball collected 32 hits in the final two games of the series.

The Cougars are now third in the West Coast Conference standings at 11-4. Loyola Marymount and Gonzaga each sit atop the conference at 14-4.

After the productive road trip, the Cougars will return to Miller Park in Provo on Thursday, April 27 to host San Francisco for a three-game series.
