BYU football added a three-star prospect to its 2018 recruiting class after QB Zadock Dinkelmann committed to the Cougars.

BYU Football bolstered its 2018 recruiting class after QB Zadock Dinkelmann announced his commitment today via Twitter.

Dinkelmann, a three-star prospect from Texas, is offensive coordinator Ty Detmer’s nephew.

Dinkelmann decommitted from LSU in January and had received offers from UT-San Antonio and Louisiana-Monroe.

He originally committed to the Tigers in eighth grade.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 228 lbs., Dinkelmann brought BYU’s 2018 recruiting class up to 25th nationally after accepting an offer from the Cougars on Monday.

He currently plays at Somerset High School in Texas. His father, Sonny, is the head coach and is married to Ty Detmer’s sister Dee.

It’s obviously early, but there’s a lot to be excited about with the addition of Dinkelmann.

Besides the addition of talent to the roster, it shows that the BYU football coaching staff has recruiting connections in traditional high school football powerhouse states.

He’s got great size, which helps him deliver passes all over the field. Arm strength shouldn’t be an issue for him. But, as his high school tapes show, he’s also a fairly accurate passer in the short and mid-range game.

For now, the Cougars will continue their offseason workouts. But we are just a few month away from getting to enjoy more BYU football.

And boy, it can’t come soon enough.

Keep it locked to Lawless Republic throughout the rest of the summer months for all things BYU football.
