The Countdown continues as we are now only 46 days away from the start of BYU Football.

Yesterday I saw my first live football game of the season as two Canadian teams dueled it out on FSN. Although the rules are very different and the talent level is not nearly the same as the NFL, the basic format of seeing the same game made me excited and gave me a very much needed game of football… kind of.

Some of the  differences between Canadian Football and American Football are drastic, such as only having three downs, a 110 yard field, and goal posts in the front end of the endzone. But there is also some big differences between even the American game today and thirty years ago.

While I am all for player safety and progressing the game, the game has become soft in today’s day with so many penalties and rule changes such as targeting, the kickoff being moved up, facemask penalties going up to 15 yards, unnecessary roughness on anything that looks like it may have hurt and hits on the quarterback. Again, I am good with wanting to protect the players, but fans love it when there is a bit hit, something that the next player in the Countdown was famous for.
