Just one day after National Signing Day BYU’s Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting Coordinator announced that he has signed at Colorado State.
Loved everything and everyone at BYU. Excited for the opportunity Coach Bobo has given me at Colorado State. Signed! pic.twitter.com/sfskILb0qI

There really isn’t a way to sugarcoat the loss that Martzen is to the BYU recruiting staff. He brought in new energy to a football team that desperately needed an uptick in recruiting when he got to Provo. He was young and connected well with recruits and he was not LDS which helped BYU widen their recruiting next. It’s a significant blow to BYU that he’s gone.
That said, he laid a really good frame work for what BYU should look for in his replacement. A young, energetic and non-LDS guy that could come in and continue the momentum that BYU has going for them is exactly what they need. Martzen helped show that BYU can be successful when casting a wider recruiting net and that will bode well for BYU in the future. Geoff Martzens don’t grow on trees but he’s left a pretty good road map for Bronco Mendenhall to follow to get as close as he can.
Guy Holliday, Garett Tujague and Mark Atuaia are still on staff. Martzen was a big boost for the recruiting department but those three coaches were the guys in recruit’s homes making an impact. They’re still on staff and BYU’s recruiting efforts will continue to go forward.
From Cougar fans everywhere, thank you, Geoff for the work you put in. We’ll enjoy watching the fruits of your efforts on the field for the next several years at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
