Jeff Grimes, LSU Offensive Line Coach/Running Game Coordinator

Grimes has spent four seasons in Baton Rouge, coaching the Tigers offensive line. BYU football fans got a first-hand look at how imposing LSU’s rushing attack is – and the Tigers can thank Grimes for that.

In three full seasons at LSU, Grimes has had three linemen drafted, seven All-SEC players and three All-Americans. Pretty impressive stuff.

Entering this season, Grimes had coached in 37 games for LSU. In 29 of those games the Tigers had at least one player rush for 100 yards. Obviously it helps when you’ve got Derrius Guice and Leonard Fournette taking carries, but that kind of consistency is impressive nonetheless.

On a side note, I tend to appreciate o-line coaches turned coordinators. There’s a deeper understanding of football along the offensive line, one that goes beyond “hit the dude in front of you.”

Sometimes that understanding really lends itself well to schematics and play calling.
