Bad Memory

No career can be perfect and while Coach Rose took his loses with grace and dignity. Rose will be associated with two scandals even though they don’t involve him directly. Coach Rose was the head coach during the incidents involving both Brandon Davies and Nick Emery. Davies, a member of the 2011 Sweet Sixteen team, was a starter that was suspended for the rest of the season due to honor code violations. BYU received national scrutiny for the incident and cast BYU into a poor light for the way that the situation was handled. In like manner Nick Emery’s improper booster benefits brought the wrath of the NCAA on the program in vacated wins and lose of scholarships. These events are unfortunate for Rose who by virtue of being the head coach cast into an unfair light. You can’t outrun mistakes, even when they are only by association.

Honorable Mentions: Losing to USD in WCC quarterfinals, losing the anual random WCC game to bottom tier team, losing first round of NIT 2017 vs UT Arlington, 4-9 record in NCAA Tournament

Who ever fills the role of head coach for the Cougars will have a tough job. Some early candidates are UVU head coach Mark Pope and Dixie State Head coach Jon Judkins, brother to the BYU women’s coach Jeff Judkins.

Regardless of what happens though, we want to say one last time, thank you Coach Rose.
