BYU’s director of football personnel, Geoff Martzen, has made it known the past couple of years that BYU is a home to transfers. Even tweeting out comments like #TransferU.

Martzen is looking to build on the momentum he had with transfers last winter by adding another talented transfer. This time a running back from Washington State with one of the greatest names you’ll ever find, Squally Canada.

Canada was on an official visit this weekend in Provo and said his visit was great via his Twitter account. Then went on to say he can’t wait to join the program in January.

Canada was a four-star recruit according to ESPN out of Milpitas, California. Canada will sign this Wednesday and enroll in January, giving him the opportunity to participate in spring football.

Canada redshirted at Washington State this year and left the Palouse this past October. Will be a redshirt-freshman in 2015 at BYU but will have to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules. That will give Canada three years to play three in Provo.

Out of high school, Canada had a handful of offers from Pac-12 schools and some of the best programs amongst the “Group of 5” schools. With Jamaal Williams entering his senior year in 2015, Canada will have a great opportunity in 2016 to take over as BYU’s feature back when the swagdaddy graduates.

Along with Canada, Trent Hosick is the only other transfer that might sign with BYU as of right now for mid-year signing day. Hosick is currently a soft verbal to the Cougars.
