BYU Recruiting: Aleva Hifo Commits To BYU
By Jeff Hansen
The latest addition to the Class of 201 6 has officially committed to BYU. Aleva Hifo out of Heritage High School in Menifee, CA is 5’11” and 180 lbs of exciting athlete and he has officially committed to BYU according to our friends at TotalBlueSports.com.
Hifo can play a couple of different positions at the next level but currently he’s slated to play corner for Bronco Mendenhall. He could very easily end up playing safety or he could put on some weight on his mission and end up playing outside linebacker for the Cougars. Not only could he play defense, he could be a very exciting slot receiver on the offense if he was asked to be. Hifo is electric and is fun to watch. He reminds me of what future BYU receiver and former UCLA commit Inoke Lotulelei looks like. I really like this pick up. Hifo is the first cousin of BYU linebacker Sione Takitaki. He’s been a lifelong BYU fan and is shutting down the recruiting process early. Because Hifo isn’t going to seriously entertain any other offers in the next year he won’t end up as highly rated of a prospect as he probably should be. He won’t have a really impressive offer sheet in February 2016, but don’t let that fool you, he’s the kind of player that will see the field early at BYU. Obviously, the coaching staff can’t talk about Hifo specifically, but Coach Mark Atuaia appears to be really excited about the commitment of Hifo.
We left Hifo off of our initial Big Board but that was a mistake. He’s been on BYU’s radar for a while and I’m glad to see that they pulled the trigger on an offer early on instead of waiting until Summer camps.
