ESPN the World Wide Leader will be the TV partner for BYU Football for this fall and the eight falls after that, and will allow re-broadcasts of games immediately after being aired. BYU-TV the official home for BYU Athletics going forward, which will be the network re-airing those games is already carried in 60 Million+ homes and 500 cable providers. Now the channel is starting to see cable and satellite providers pick up the channel in High Definition. Everything at BYU-TV is already filmed in High Def, it’s just a matter of cable/satellite providers picking it up, and from the sounds of it we can expect more to be picking up the network in High Def. We can’t fathom more mtn.-like broadcasts going forward. We want that much discussed “HD Truck” put to good use baby.
BYU has hired a Director of BYU’s Broadcasting Digital Group. His name is Ryan Holmes, and he is leading up the charge to build iPhone, iPad apps so you can consume your BYU Cougars on the go wherever you are. And if your a gamer, you will be able to get BYU sports from your Xbox’s and Playstation 3’s.
From that sounds of it, your going to be able to digest BYU sports like never before, and we are loving every minute of it. But where does that leave the radio feed for BYU sports, KSL 1160?
KSL has been huge the past few years for many BYU fans worldwide who could not access The mtn., CBS College Sports, or Versus. Every football post-game show with the Voice of the Cougars Greg Wrubell and Marc Lyons would always see e-mails from the likes of Istanbul, Russia, Spain, and basically anywhere you can think of on the other side of the world were chiming in from KSL.com listening to their beloved BYU Cougars. And with Wrubell’s calls becoming more and more beloved by Cougar faithful we can’t forget the quality of product we have covering the Cougars on the airwaves going forward into Independence.
Wrubell himself sent out a tweet to a BYU fan saying that KSL is to likely be on Sirius/XM Satellite radio this fall.
This is huge. As someone who has owned Sirius Satellite Radio in the past, it’s a fantastic product and geared towards sports fans.
Sirius has a lot of programming involving College Football, including Sirius XM College Sports Nation. Which every week during the College Football season broadcasts the best College Football games of the week; and has daily College Football shows year round. Could be another fantastic tool in getting BYU Football and sports that coveted exposure, this program has deserved for years now.
And let’s face it. The country needs to be educated on the voice of Greg Wrubell. America was hearing some of his stuff on SportsCenter after Jimmer went off for his 47 points against rival Utah this past season in Hoops, but the country deserves to hear this man on a regular basis, and with Satellite radio they could have that opportunity.
