89 Days! Happy Matthew Edwards Day!

By: Mitch Harper

Now into the 80’s portion of the countdown to BYU’s Season-Opener at Ole Miss.

Matthew Edwards, #89, Junior, Tight End

Grandson to BYU coaching legend, LaVell Edwards, Edwards was a former scout team player who has worked his way onto the gameday rosters.  Edwards is a third string Tight End right now, played very well in the Blue-White spring scrimmage.

Historical #89’s

Spencer Nead, TE (2001-2002)

A JUCO transfer from Ricks College, Spencer Nead burst onto the BYU scene with a solid season in 2001, giving BYU a formidable 1-2 punch at Tight End in Nead and Doug Jolley.  The 2001 BYU offense is still the highest scoring BYU team to date, putting up 608 points in 14 games.

Nead finished his BYU career with 715 yards and six touchdown grabs in his two years in Provo.
