Utah Athletic Director, Chris Hill made an announcement today via YouTube regarding the BYU-Utah series continuing in 2017. The biggest news from that announcement was the 2018 contest expected to be played in November.
Hill fielded questions from local media today about the YouTube announcement and mentioned another possible scheduling note for BYU.
When asked about BYU & Utah playing every year on Thanksgiving weekend, Hill said that wouldn’t be possible due to BYU’s series’ with USC and Stanford. This according to the Deseret News’ Mike Sorensen. Stanford? Say what?
Stanford and BYU have only played twice in their history. A home-and-home series back in 2003 & 2004. Stanford won both of those games.
With a scheduling agreement from USC and tentative dates with Stanford and rival Utah, all of which will have games in November, BYU is finding a nice niche in a world as an Independent.
USC & Stanford both have annual rivalries with Notre Dame. In the years where the Trojans and Cardinal travel to South Bend, BYU is filling in those Thanksgiving weekend slots. Nice travel destinations for the Cougars and the fan base.
We will keep you posted with more details on this scheduling move in the near future.
