Hebron Fangupo
Defensive Tackle | Pittsburgh Steelers
Year at BYU: 2011
In Fangupo’s first season in the NFL last year, he bounced around the league three times. Originally signed with the Houston Texans as an UDFA, then went to Seattle and actually saw time in a game for the Seahawks against the 49ers. Shortly after that appearance, Fangupo was cut by Seahawks. Fangupo is now with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers are well known for having former BYU players thrive along their Defensive Line. Brett Keisel is still a starter at Defensive End for the Steelers, and Chris Hoke had an 11-year career at DT in Pittsburgh. Hoke retired after the 2011 season.
BYU coaches visited Fangupo and the Steelers this past off-season. A lot of the schemes BYU runs currently are similar to what the Steelers run, according to BYU Defensive Coordinator, Nick Howell from Media Day. A base 3-4 Defense will be nothing new to Fangupo, who in his one year at BYU was a run stuffer at the DT spot.
Fangupo is currently listed as a third-string DT for the Steelers, but I bet he moves up and eventually could be a starter for Pittsburgh.
2013 Outlook: Makes final 53-man roster
