BYU Basketball: Eric Mika Receives Mission Call
By Jeff Hansen
BYU’s standout freshman Eric Mika opening his mission call last night and will be serving in the Rome, Italy mission. He will report for his assignment on May 14 of this year.
Also headed to the same mission is walk-on Graham Pingree. It’s not every day that two teammates on the basketball team go to the same mission.
This is obviously exciting news for Mika and his family. But, there is also exciting news for BYU basketball fans as well.
Mika will be leaving the team for two years, but because he is leaving in May, he will likely return sometime in May as well. This is good news because Mika will have nearly a full offseason to get back into basketball shape before he starts his sophomore year. After two years of authentic Italian eating, this benefits BYU basketball immensely.
In more mission news, future Cougar TJ Haws received his mission call last night as well and will be serving in the France Lyon Mission.
It doesn’t mean anything, but I think it’s interesting that each of the “Lone Peak 3” are headed to essentially the same area. Nick Emery is currently serving in Germany and Mika and Haws are on their way to Italy and France.
The future of BYU basketball is coming.
