11. California

BYU @ California Saturday, November 29

Cal was a mess last year.  Only one team was worse than the Golden Bears on defense last year, as Cal came was ranked 122 and gave up 529 yards per game.  While the second year of Sonny Dykes in Berkeley should be more successful, they won’t be a much improved defensive unit.  Cal returns 6 starters and will rely heavily on their linebackers, but they currently are searching for playmakers.  Cal could give up 100 fewer yards per game and still rank 90 or worse in total defense.  It’s that bad and isn’t looking to get better soon.

Player to Watch:  Brennan Scarlett, DE.  Scarlett did not play in 2013 due to injury, but in 2012 had 36 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
