Dayan Lake’s Hudl highlights.

Dayan Lake has been committed to the Cougars for what seems like forever. He’s the football version of Nick Emery. It feels like we’ve been looking forward to his arrival in Provo forever, and yet, he still is at least a year away.

He’s the type of defensive back that BYU doesn’t normally get for four straight years, he is simply dynamic. As he heads into his senior season for Northridge High School, I think there are a couple of things to watch.

Lake has been vocal about his desire to play defense and for Coach Nick Howell at BYU, but he is also a very impressive running back. I would expect that he puts up impressive numbers on the offensive side of the football while his defensive numbers won’t be quite as impressive this year.

Northridge will be able to control exactly how much Lake gets the ball on offense, where opposing offenses will be able to avoid Lake at all costs. Have no fear, Cougar fans, Lake is a dynamic defensive player no matter how many interceptions he gets this year.

Lake has had interest from the likes of Oregon and Alabama but has remained strong to his commitment to BYU. By all accounts, he seems like a kid of high integrity and a very high sense of loyalty. The offers haven’t flooded in for Lake mostly due to the fact he’s been so solid to BYU.

However, I expect there to be a number of schools calling his name as his goes through his senior season. He’s just that good. If you can’t make it to Layton, Utah to watch Northridge play this season, be sure to check Lake out when he plays in the Army All-American game later this year. Signing Day can’t come soon enough. So far, Lake is the jewel of this class.
