Riley Burt isn’t as heralded a prospect as some of the other commits that BYU has this season, but it certainly isn’t due to a lack of talent. BYU is Burt’s only official offer, but he was receiving interest from the likes of Utah and Utah State when he committed.
If Burt wasn’t in the small town of Brigham City, Utah playing for the small school of Box Elder he would have more national attention. He’s a raw talent, but his upside is outstanding and he’s going to be a great athlete for BYU.
I expect Burt to have a good year for Box Elder, but wouldn’t be surprised if his numbers don’t jump off the charts. Unfortunately for Burt, the talent surrounding him isn’t up to his caliber. Opposing teams will certainly game plan around him. He will be the focal point of every defense and offenses will avoid throwing his direction at all costs.
But watch him play, Cougar fans. Burt has excellent athleticism. It’s easy to see why BYU was so excited when he announced his commitment. He’s got the potential to be a great athlete. He’s also good friends with fellow BYU-commit Dayan Lake. Here’s what people are saying about him on Twitter.
Pay some extra attention to Box Elder High School this year. Riley Burt will be a great player and will be an impact player for BYU in a couple of years.
