BYU Lands 4-Star Recruit Gavin Baxter

BYU received some welcome news today to their basketball program as they received a commitment from 4-star recruit Gavin Baxter out of Timpview High School in Provo, Utah.

Baxter is rated as a 4-star recruit at the forward position by 247, scout, and rivals. He can play either forward position and comes in at 6’8″ and 175 lbs, with a wingspan that looks like he could wrap his arms around you twice. Both of his parents were former BYU athletes, and he’s certainly inherited their athleticism.

He’s a top of the line player who was also being recruited by UCLA and was in fact recently offered by them. He was also recruited by Arizona State and Utah State.  He’s the first player in the 2016 recruiting class, and he’s a great one.

Here are his averages for his AAU team: Utah Prospects- 9.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists (all stats per game). It is the same team that Lone Peak star Frank Jackson is a member of who the Cougars are also recruiting.

He also averaged 15.5 points per game and he hit a team-high 25 3-pointers as he helped the Thunderbirds reach the Class 4A state semifinals in February.

Baxter plans to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints after he graduates in 2015-2016 and he will enroll at BYU for the 2018-19 season.
