Steve Young is stated as potentially being interested in the job, but he’s probably the least likely to win it. He would definitely have some upsides though. Steve Young had a good college and pro football career, so he shouldn’t have a problem relating to players. He’s also kept around the sport as an analyst, so you gotta think he’d have a good idea of what to do if called upon by the Cougars.
I think Steve Young would be able to get terrific talent for the Cougars, and he would be a very respectable guy. He would be a huge boost to the morale for the program and its fans. Without question the nation would be intrigued by the hire as well.

The downsides are that Young doesn’t really have much coaching experience. I’m sure he could put together the right staff, but when it comes down to it, he’d likely be a bigger risk as a head coach than any of the other potential candidates. I think he’d serve well as a quarterbacks coach, but anything more would be a pretty big risk for BYU to take at this point, especially if it’s for a high sum of money.
Do you think Young might have a future in coaching, and could he end up as the head BYU Football coach someday?
