With BYU football is in full swing and BYU basketball is just starting to ramp things up. With those major sports rolling, it’s often difficult to keep track of secondary storylines regarding BYU athletics.

BYU football and basketball grab all the headlines. But women’s soccer and women’s volleyball are both rolling and women’s basketball is just around the corner. In short, the state of BYU athletics on the whole is a pretty good one.

But let’s take a look at three compelling BYU athletic storylines that you may have missed.

He’s over 9,000!

This week, Taysom Hill put himself in rarefied air, statistically speaking.

He passed 9,000 total yards of offense for his career vs Cincinnati. Although there have been complaints about his touch and accuracy this year, through an injury-plagued career, Hill has managed heights that only the likes of Jim McMahon, Max Hall, John Beck, and Ty Detmer have reached.

With four games left in the season (with an all-but-certain bowl game) and the competition level taking a sharp decline, it’s not impossible to think Hill might join Hall, Beck, and Detmer on the 10,000 yard plane.

Hill’s legacy has yet to be cemented in total. But surely he will end as one of the most athletic quarterbacks to play at BYU. The Texas games, his two-point conversion curse, and his magical ability to scramble on third downs will linger long in the memory of the Cougar faithful.
