BYU basketball: L.J. Rose getting surgery on right knee
BYU basketball suffered a big blow on Wednesday, losing point guard L.J. Rose to knee surgery.
BYU basketball senior point guard L.J. Rose will have knee surgery on Friday to repair the meniscus in his right knee.
Rose is a senior captain and the starting point guard for BYU basketball. He was experience knee pain and discomfort throughout January and underwent an MRI on Monday, revealing a meniscus tear. Rose will go under the knife on Friday, and there currently isn’t a set timetable for his return.
The Houston transfer has done a little bit of everything for the Cougars this season. He’s averaging 5.5 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game and a team-best 4.5 assists per game. He also started all 25 games.
With Rose gone, it’s more than likely that BYU basketball turns to TJ Haws at the point guard spot. While losing Rose is unwelcome news, the Cougars’ offense has been much more dynamic with Haws at the point. That also means Elijah Bryant will likely find his way into the starting lineup.
Davin Guinn – especially after seeing his defensively play – will also see a spike in minutes.

For all that Rose does well, scoring wasn’t one of them. He’s not a threat to shoot from deep, and he’s not a real creator offensively. So giving Haws the keys to the car will likely improve the offensive woes the Cougars have struggled with.
The Cougars have now lost both of their upperclassmen captains.
Here’s to wishing Rose a speedy recovery.
BYU basketball will travel to Pepperdine on Thursday, Feb. 9.
