BYU football will be playing the Tennessee Volunteers and the Idaho State Bengals in the coming years.

BYU football has scheduled matchups with one of the most successful programs in college football – and with an FCS opponent.

Athletic Director Tom Holmoe announced games with Tennessee and Idaho State today.

“There’s something about those orange and white checkerboard end zones that shouts ‘Tradition!’,” Holmoe said in a press release. “When the opportunity to play a series with Tennessee presented itself, we didn’t blink. They’re a storied program with a winning tradition, National Championships, a classic stadium, incredible fans and Hall of Fame coaches.”

BYU football will travel to Neyland Stadium in Knoxville on Sept. 7, 2019. The Volunteers will visit LaVell Edwards Stadium on either Sept. 1 or Sept. 2, 2023. BYU and Tennessee have never faced off on the gridiron.

The Cougars will also host Idaho State on Nov. 16, 2019. BYU is 5-0 all-time against the Bengals.

Playing Tennessee is a great opportunity for BYU football. The Volunteers have six National Championships and 829 all-time wins. They’re on the shortlist of best teams in the history of college football. Neyland Stadium is the fourth-largest stadium in the country – holding more than 102,000 people. There’s often a lot of talk about exposure when it comes to BYU football and its contract with ESPN – and there’s no better place in the nation to get exposure than in SEC country.

It’s tough to know what the rosters for each school will look like in 2019, but BYU will be moving on from the Tanner Mangum era.

The 2019 BYU football schedule also features games with Utah, USC, Washington, Toledo, Utah State, Washington State, Boise State, UMass and San Diego State. There are three games yet to be announced.
