Nine different BYU football players receive academic recognition from the NFF
A whopping nine different BYU football players have been honored by the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.
Nine BYU football players are receiving academic honors.
Nick Kurtz, Mitch Juergens, Garrett Juergens, Chris Badger, Taysom Hill, Austin Heder, Andrew Eide and Parker Dawe.
Players who qualified for the NFF Hampshire Honor Society received at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA throughout college.
Other qualifications (from the NFF Hampshire Honor Society’s website) include:
- Starting or being a significant contributor in the final season of eligibility.
- Being a senior that declared for the NFL Draft.
- Attending an accredited university.
“We are pleased to see a record number of colleges and universities embrace the Hampshire Honor Society this year,” NFF President and CEO Steve Hatchell said in a press release. “We congratulate the schools and each of these young men for their commitment to excellence in all aspects of their lives.”
With the nine additions this year, BYU football’s total of NFF Honor Society members increases to 50. That is more than any other Division I program. Minnesota (43) and Ohio State (40) trail the Cougars.
BYU football is also one of just 31 schools that had at least one player nominated in each of the last 11 years.
The only Power 5 schools to do so were Colorado, Iowa Minnesota, Penn State, Purdue and West Virginia.
Nearly 1,100 student athletes from almost 300 schools were eligible.
Congratulations to those nine Cougars on their achievement, and best of luck to them in the future.
