BYU football hosted a former Cougar – and Super Bowl champion – in Provo yesterday as Brian Billick came to town to address the team.

Brian Billick led the Baltimore Ravens to the Super Bowl in 2000. This week, the former champ returned to Provo to address the BYU football team.

Billick himself suited up for the Cougars from 1974-76 and was part of the ginormous LaVell Edwards coaching tree.

The team posted a number of videos on Twitter. The players certainly seemed to enjoy it.

It’s not often that a college program can welcome back a Super Bowl-winning coach to address the team, so it’s certainly a cool moment.

“I sat where you sat, I know what you want,” Billick said in a video posted by BYU football. “I know what your experiences are, I know where you want to go. The difference is, 40 years removed, I’ve now done it and know the path. I know the mistakes made, I know the positives, I know the negatives. But those who won’t are no better than those who can’t. If you can, and you will, boy, the world is going to be right in your hand. I promise you. As an old guy who has seen a few things… if you do that as a team, it’ll be fun to watch you guys play next year.”

Billick seemed to enjoy it as well.

Billick was in Utah for the Scholar Leader Athlete Award Banquet, which was hosted by the National Football Foundation.

Last week, nine BYU football players were honored by the NFF.

For now, BYU football will continue offseason workouts. Some former Cougars are preparing for the NFL Draft, which starts on April 27.
