Start your day with BYU football: Max Hall to Andrew George for 2009 Holy War win
The 2009 edition of the Holy War was the last that BYU football has won. While the Cougars are in a drought, remember the awesome play that beat Utah.
Well, it’s sadly been awhile since BYU football knocked off the Utes. The Cougars have been close (outside of the 2011 shellacking, the other five games were decided by a touchdown or less).
The last time BYU got a Holy War win was in 2009.
Max Hall connected with Andrew George on a nice 25-yard catch-and-run in overtime, giving No. 19 BYU the 26-23 victory over No. 21 Utah.
The fans stormed the field and BYU had won three of the last four against Utah. Good times.
Hall completed 12-of-32 passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Harvey Langi took 23 carries for 116 yards (5.0 yards per carry) and a touchdown.
George was the team’s leading receiver, hauling in two passes for 43 yards and the game-winning score.
While the win was a great one, the night will largely be remembered for Max Hall’s candid post-game interview. In what sounded like an old WWE shoot interview, Hall went off on the Utes.
“I don’t like Utah,” Hall told ESPN. “In fact, I hate everything about them. I hate their program, their fans. I hate everything. It felt really good to send those guys home.”
But it didn’t end there for the Cougar signal caller.
“I think the whole university and their fans and the organization is classless,” Hall continued. “They threw beer on my family and stuff last year, and did a whole bunch of nasty things. I don’t respect them and they deserved to lose.”

As a BYU fan, part of that rant makes me cringe. It’s not the best look to have a player go off like that. On the flipside, it’s also refreshing to see an athlete shoot from the hip like Hall did that night.
Long live the Holy War.
