BYU volleyball: Cougars add two commits for 2018
The BYU volleyball team is preparing for a run in the MPSF Tournament, but recruiting never sleeps.
On the court, BYU volleyball hosts the Stanford Cardinal tonight in Provo in the quarterfinals of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament.
Off the court, the Cougars added two recruits to their 2018 recruiting class.
Felipe de Brito Ferreira and Garrett Halsey are the newest members of BYU volleyball.
“We are excited about the addition of Felipe and Garrett to our team,” Shawn Olmstead said in a press release. “Both are great young men from outstanding families that will add tremendously to our program.”
Ferreira is a native of Brazil. He’ll be a middle blocker in Provo. He is 6-foot-9 and was recruited to the Under-19 Brazilian National Team.
“Felipe comes from an athletic family and a very successful club system in Brazil,” Olmstead said. “He’s relatively new to volleyball, but in that short time he’s competed and trained with some of the best Brazil has to offer. His passion and love for volleyball is typical of what you find in Brazilian players and shows in his play.”
Halsey hails from California. He’ll play outside or opposite hitter for BYU volleyball. He checks in at 6-foot-5.

“Garrett comes from one of the best club teams in Southern California,” Olmstead said. “He’s a wonderful young man with an outstanding support system. He continues to grow and improve in volleyball each time we watch him play. He’s a well-rounded player that will fit into a handful of roles for our team.”
BYU volleyball will lose three seniors to graduation this season. Joseph Grosh, Kiril Meretev and Jake Langlois. There are also rumors that junior Ben Patch will be going pro. So Ferreira and Halsey will have plenty of chances to contribute.
