There’s minimal talent development

I’m not here to bash on Coach Rose, but there are some fairly alarming trends occurring. Not the least of which is his seemingly endless revolving door of undergrad players.

It’s been happening for quite some time now. Each player has a different story on why they wanted out (some disliked the culture, others weren’t satisfied with their playing time, others were pushed out by the coaching staff).

But at the end of the day, talented players are leaving Provo. That’d be fine if Rose was replacing those players with higher caliber players, but that isn’t happening.

Jake Toolson, Frank Bartley, Isaac Neilson, Jordan Chatman, Cory Calvert, Jakob Hartsock are all gone. Now add Beo, Aytes and Guinn. That’s nine players in just two years.

It doesn’t seem like there’s any real talent development occurring in Provo. Not only is Rose just carouseling guys in and out, but it seems the replacement players are often less experienced. So even if the upside is higher on a replacement, it never gets seen.

Rose has great starters (Nick Emery, TJ Haws, Yoeli Childs, Seljaas), but it won’t mean anything if the No. 6-10 spots are terrible.

Hopefully BYU basketball proves me wrong.
