Ian Rapoport: NFL execs say BYU football’s Taysom Hill has ‘a future’ in the NFL
The NFL tweeted out a video of Ian Rapoport offering some quarterback sleepers. BYU football’s Taysom Hill made that list.
UPDATE: This story has been updated to reflect Rapopprt’s quote. I believed he said Hill’s playing style was “the future” of the NFL. I believe he actually said Hill has “a future” in the NFL.
BYU football fans love Taysom Hill. Despite his injuries, there’s no reason not to love Hill. He was a good kid that worked hard and loved everything about BYU. Hill returned to the school when no one would’ve blamed him for jumping ship, and he’s just had terrible injury luck.
So, when Hill suffered a season-ending injury against Utah State in November 2016, many BYU football fans assumed it was the last time he would put pads on.
But he continued to rehab and train, and performed quite well at BYU’s annual NFL Pro Day.
Hill ran a 4.44-second 40-yard dash and posted a 38.5-inch vertical leap. He proved he was still freakishly athletic, and he turned a lot of heads.
Still, with his injury history and spotty track record as a passer, it seemed like a long shot for Hill to make it as an NFL quarterback.
But it’s possible he’s a little less of a long shot now.
ESPN 960 radio host Ben Criddle said the Green Bay Packers flew Hill out for a workout and interview. Surely the Packers aren’t the only team interested, but it’s tough to know who teams are focusing on.
But, it’s apparent that Hill has made a good impression.
You can watch the video above, but here’s what Rap Sheet said about Hill:
“Taysom Hill of BYU. He had an injury history, most people don’t really know him. He’s one that several people have looked at his film and said ‘You know what? This guy has a future of the NFL if he can just stay healthy.”
Now, it’s likely they’re referring to Hill’s body type and play style (as opposed to him, specifically). Or, it’s even more likely he said Hill ‘has a future’ in the pros. But, we’ll find out what happens with Hill in just a few short days as the NFL Draft is quickly approaching.
