BYU football: Three bold predictions for next season
BYU football won’t be kicking off for another few months, but it’s never too early to start thinking about the Cougars.
While BYU football is off conducting Fan Fest events, fans can only wait until the Cougars re-take the field.
The Cougars have an important year next season, and have the potential to make a huge impact. With big games against Utah, LSU and Wisconsin on the table, BYU football is eyeing a potential New Year’s Six bowl berth.
While BYU will be replacing some top-level talent, it seems like all the pieces are in place for the Cougars to make a real run.
Now is the time to take some chances, roll the dice, and see if we can’t nail a thing or two about BYU football in 2017-18.
So here are three bold predictions for the Cougars next season.
Ula Tolutau is BYU’s most productive running back
Tolutau is an exciting prospect for the Cougars. He came into spring camp too heavy, originally checking in at 260-pounds. Obviously, he’ll have to continue to slim down to really be effective, but I think he will.
Tolutau was an animal while at East High School (UT) before going on his LDS mission. The once-Wisconsin commit rushed for 2,465 yards and 31 touchdowns as a senior.
He didn’t do too much in the spring game, but that’s not saying much. Matt Bushman seemed to be the only Cougar excited to play on that cold, rainy day.
Squally Canada and Riley Burt (and the other Cougar runners) are very talented. They’ll have good seasons. But when the clock on the final game hits zeros, it will be Tolutau who had the most productive season.
