Kavika Fonua

Kavika Fonua is the 2017 dark horse for BYU football.

A very intriguing running back to watch in 2017 is Kavika Fonua.  Many Cougar fans will remember him playing on the defensive side of the ball.

Last year as a sophomore, Fonua saw significant time as an outside linebacker, collecting 24 tackles along the way.

Since Kavika did show promise as a linebacker, it came as a bit of a surprise to see Fonua switch to running back in the Spring.  Apparently Kalani Sitake feels that running back is Kavika’s best fit  for his future potential.

A former 3-star recruit who turned down an offer from Utah, Fonua was recruited primarily as a defensive player, but he was also a standout running back for Syracuse High School.

The 6’0″/215 Fonua looked very good in the Spring game (6 carries, 53 yards).  He will be very interesting to monitor in fall camp.
