New faces likely to contribute

Kieffer Longson, 6-7/300, RS Freshman.

The former Scout.com 4-star recruit had a very impressive list of offers as a high school recruit (Ohio State, Florida State, UCLA, Utah, Arizona State, Colorado, etc.). Longson was a major recruiting win for BYU Football in the class of 2015. After redshirting in 2016, look for Longson to make an impact this season.

John Taipe Vaka, 6-5/275, Junior.

The Diablo Valley College product was at one time committed to Oregon. The 3-star recruit also held offers from Colorado, Arizona, and Washington State. As a juco prospect with the talent to garner multiple Pac-12 offers, Vaka will be expected to compete right away for the Cougars.

Austin Chambers, 6-4/301, RS Freshman.  The 3-star recruit from the class of 2014 returned from his mission and red-shirted the 2016 season. Chambers is likely to be a factor as a back-up guard and could also back up Tejan Koroma at center.

Others that could compete for playing time with BYU football in 2017 include Leroy-Sitake Tanoai (6-4/320, RS Soph, 3-star recruit 247sports.com) Zac Dawe (6-4/280 RS Freshman, 3-star recruit 247sports.com) and Chandon Herring (6-7/285, RS Freshman, 3-star recruit ESPN.com).
