Since the passing of the late LaVell Edwards, honoring the legendary former BYU football head coach has been a widespread discussion throughout all of Cougar fandom.

Another BYU football Media Day is in the books, and what turned out to be a very special one at that. This year, segments dedicated to the great coach LaVell Edwards were placed throughout the program’s schedule, and was a primary theme of the event.

The BYU football Media Day has been a traditional event for several years. This year, Athletic Director Tom Holmoe announced that a special patch featuring a profile look of LaVell will be worn in the 2017 football season.

Media Day continued to honor LaVell with an hour segment called, LaVell’s Coaching Tree. Many shared sentimental thoughts and moments that they relate to Coach Edwards. Kalani Sitake, Kyle Whittingham of the University of Utah, and Kansas City Chiefs head coach, Andy Reid, were among the few who reminisced about their beloved coach.
