The Great Head Coach

The BYU football program was average at best since its beginning over one hundred years ago. LaVell Edwards was hired as head coach in 1971, and immediately success became a BYU football norm.

To put it into perspective, the Cougars never played in a bowl game, and had won only a single conference championship the 50+ years before Edwards. When LaVell finished his 29 season career, he took the Cougars to 22 bowl games and won 19 conference championships.

He is the greatest to ever coach a BYU football team. His total wins alone are more than all other BYU football head coaches combined wins. His career ranks in the nations top 10 most winningest head coaches of all time.
