Jason Buck’s No. 99

Jason Buck played just two seasons with BYU football, but one can’t deny his dominance.

I know it might not sit well for some to retire the number of a player who spent just 24 months with the program, but when you have numbers like Buck has, it’s a different story.

From 1985-86, Buck posted 112 tackles, 20 tackles for a loss, 44 QB hurries and 25 sacks. He was the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 1985 and was a Third Team United Press All-American.

He followed up that campaign by winning the Outland Trophy in 1986 and being named a consensus All-American.

Granted, this idea may not sit well with some fans, considering the last time Buck made headlines he was saying that BYU football should return to the Mountain West. However, his explanations regarding his statements show he had nothing but the best interest of BYU football in mind.
