2007: BYU 78 – No. 6 Louisville 76

Jonathan Tavernari and Trent Plaisted carried BYU to a big win over No. 6 Louisville. It was the Cougars’ best win against a ranked opponent since the aforementioned game against Goukas and the Hawks.

Tavernari hit five 3-pointers en route to a career-high 29 points and Plaisted recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

The duo combined to score 35 of BYU’s 37 second-half points.

Even though Louisville was dealing with injuries to some key players, this was a game that many expected the Cougars to lose. Even with the injuries, Louisville started two players that would go on to become first-round NBA Draft picks (Terrence Williams and Earl Clark), a second-round pick (Derrick Caracter) and an UFA (Jerry Smith). Not too shabby.

With the win, the Cougars went on to face No. 1 North Carolina in the final of the Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Invitational Tournament.
