2009: No. 20 BYU 14 – No. 3 Oklahoma 13

This game against the Sooners was easily the biggest win of the Mendenhall era.

BYU football clashed with Oklahoma in the first-ever college football game in Jerry World, and the Cougars made it a memorable night.

I know the Sooners didn’t have the best year in 2009 (they finished 8-5), but that doesn’t change the talent they had on their roster.

BYU football knocked starting quarterback Sam Bradford, but the Sooners replaced him with Landry Jones.

Oklahoma’s backfield featured Chris Brown and DeMarco Murray. The Sooners also had Ryan Broyles at wide receiver.

So there was no shortage of NFL talent in Oklahoma.

Max Hall completed 26-of-38 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns. Dennis Pitta was clutch all night, catching seven passes for 90 yards. McKay Jacobson and Andrew George combined for seven receptions, 95 yards and two scores.

The biggest play of the game came in the fourth quarter, when Hall found Jacobson connected on a seven-yard touchdown strike, giving BYU the lead.
