Every Wednesday at Lawless Republic, will be ‘What If Wednesday.’ This week? What if Brandon Davies wasn’t suspended from BYU basketball in 2011?

Brandon Davies was a key piece of BYU basketball’s 2011 squad. The Cougar big man was averaging 11 points and six rebounds per game, and BYU was eyeing a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.

It didn’t end up happening like that.

But what if things had played out differently?

Obviously, this particular suspension is a touchy subject – as is anything dealing with BYU’s honor code. So I want to stress that this is focused strictly on the basketball court. There’s no way that any BYU basketball fan would try to attack the character of Davies.

So regardless of how you feel about BYU, the honor code, or Davies getting suspended, we’re going to keep this on the hardwood.

Davies was a talented big for the Cougars, and even as a sophomore he was developing into the scoring threat that we’d see for the next two years in Provo.

So let’s break down what happened, and – more interestingly – what might have happened.
