BYU basketball: Steven Beo transfers to Eastern Washington
BYU basketball has faced a ton of turnover the last few months. The last domino to fall was Steven Beo.
Hope you’ve been paying attention. If you haven’t, you’ve likely missed one of the many BYU basketball moves that’s taken place since the Cougars’ season came to an end against UT-Arlington.
Eric Mika departed Provo early for the NBA Draft. He was undrafted, but signed on with the Miami Heat for the NBA Summer League.
Kyle Davis and L.J. Rose graduated.
Colby Leifson is off on his LDS mission (Brazil).
Corbin Kaufusi made the decision to focus on football.
Jamal Aytes transferred to Southern Utah.
Davin Guinn is attending law school.
Zach Frampton is going to Dixie State.
And now we know where former BYU basketball guard Steven Beo will be playing. Eastern Washington.
Beo, per NCAA transfer rules, will sit out the 2017-18 season after averaging 2.2 points and 11 minutes per game with BYU basketball last year.
After looking at his high school numbers, many BYU basketball fans expected way more from Beo than what he produced. At Richland High School (WA), Beo averaged 27.7 points per game as a junior and 26.7 points per game as a senior.
He was a talented scorer, and many expected him to fit into BYU’s run-and-gun offense effortlessly. It just didn’t work out, as he was buried behind more talented guards.
Eastern Washington head coach Shantay Legans told The Spokesman-Review he was excited to have Beo in the program.
“We’ve had a chance to watch Steven play a lot over the last few years,” Legans told the newspaper. “Steven is a talented scorer, great defender and a high-character person. He will fit right in with what we are doing on and off the court.”
Obviously, Cougar Nation wishes Beo nothing but the best in his new home.
For BYU, the new-look basketball squad will have plenty of fresh faces next season. Kajon Brown, Jahshire Hardnett, Rylan Bergersen and McKay Cannon are the newest Cougars that will be suiting up in Provo.
