BYU football: Did Tom Holmoe tease a new helmet for the Cougars?
Tom Holmoe had an interesting choice of words regarding a potential new helmet for BYU football. Is he teasing something?
Okay, so Tom Holmoe definitely maybe teased a potential new BYU football helmet that the Cougars might use at some point. Maybe.
I may be reaching a tad here, but in this era, you have to take notice of everything.
So here’s the deal.
At the tail-end of last week/this weekend, a BYU football fans on Twitter (@oldmaxhall) tweeted at Tom Holmoe, asking about an all-royal blue helmet.
Holmoe’s response I think is telling.
“Not this year…”
So maybe it’s the WWE fan in me – but it definitely seem like ol’ Tommy boy was cutting a nifty promo here. There’s a chance these helmets never arrive in Provo, but if that was the case, he’d surely just say “no,” right?
So this was definitely a tease for 2018 and beyond. At least, I feel like it was tease. Maybe it wasn’t.
My head is spinning.
BYU fans are incredibly lucky to have an AD like Holmoe. He’s really plugged into the fan base, and he takes a genuine interest in providing what Cougar Nation wants.

After BYU football Media Day, fans said they wanted to purchase gear with the LaVell patch logo on it. Just a handful of days later, Holmoe announced it would be available.
Really, the guy is awesome.
So, as far as this all-royal blue helmet goes, who knows what will happen? The way he tweeted, it seems like it is certainly in the works – and that would be awesome to see. But, the white and royal helmets that BYU football used against Utah last season are also great.
I still think it’s only a matter of time before the Cougars swap back to royal officially, maybe this helmet (and new uniform?) will be part of that announcement in the next few years.
