BYU football kicked off the summer in a big way, offering nearly two dozen recruits and securing 12 verbal commitments in June.

Kalani Sitake and his coaching staff has been putting in some major work for BYU football.

And before long, the Cougars will reap the rewards on the field.

In June alone, BYU football nabbed verbal commitments from 12 recruits.

Let’s take a look at each of the new Cougars.

Tristen Hoge

Position: C

Measurables: 6-foot-4, 305-pounds

Scout Ranking: 4-Stars

Hoge is a transfer from Notre Dame, where he played six games last season. In 2015 he was the Irish’s Scout Team Player of the Year. He’s BYU quarterback Beau Hoge’s cousin (and a nephew of ESPN’s Merril Hoge). Hoge held scholarships from a litany of programs coming out of high school. He is the heir apparent to Tejan Koroma.

James Empey

Position: OL

Measurables: 6-foot-5, 275-pounds

Scout Ranking: 3-Stars

Empey is the son of BYU football’s offensive line coach, Mike Empey. He held offers from Utah, Boise State and Washington – but transferred from the Utes to BYU following his LDS mission to be with his dad.

Christian Folau

Position: LB

Measurables: 6-foot-1, 240-pounds

Scout Ranking: 4-Stars

Folau was an Oregon State commit, but flipped to BYU football following his LDS mission. Originally recruited by Sitake and Tuiaki, it made sense he’d follow them to Provo. For a full breakdown of what Folau does well, you can check out this story.
