Two more BYU football stars have been named to award watchlists. This time the honors go to Tejan Koroma and Jonny Linehan.

BYU football’s resident Twitter celebrity (and punter) Jonny Linehan is a member of the preseason Ray Guy Award watchlist.

Linehan has had an incredible football career after leaving rugby. In 2015 he punted 62 balls for 2,649 yards (42.7 yards per punt). His long was 77 yards and he landed 20 punts inside the 20-yard line.

Last season he punted 57 times for 2,420 yards (42.5 yards). He pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line 30 times and BYU football finished 6th in average punt return yards allowed with 2.53.

Linehan isn’t necessarily a player BYU football fans want to see on the field. After all, that means the Cougars are relinquishing possession. However, there’s no denying that Linehan is an incredible weapon for the Cougars.

Koroma has been named to the Rimington watchlist. He’s now a three-time nominee.

Pro Football Focus rated Koroma as one of the top four centers in the nation at the end of last season. He’s made 38 starts in his career – every game he’s played in Provo.

It’s a well deserved honor for Koroma, who has been the anchor of the offensive line since 2014. It isn’t often that BYU football has players take home major awards, but I think Koroma has a good a shot as any to take home the Rimington Trophy.

It would be especially helpful to his case if BYU could post 10 or 11 wins this season.

BYU football will begin fall camp in just a couple weeks, so before long we’ll be talking in-game performances instead of watchlists. Exciting times. But regardless, congratulations are in order for both Koroma and Linehan.
