Mangum throws 35 touchdowns

Only Max Hall, Ty Detmer and Jim McMahon have thrown 35 or more touchdowns in a single season for BYU football.

Mangum will join that list.

To do that, he’ll need 2.5 touchdowns per game – counting on a bowl game. That will be a tall order, but things are lining up for this to become reality.

BYU’s pass protection should hold up more often than not, allowing Mangum to progress through his reads and find open receivers. The receiving group being more athletic from a year ago helps them in the playmaking department. Finally, Mangum is adept at doing something extremely difficult: throwing receivers open.

Mangum understands coverages and routes, and can throw to the open spots. He’ll just need to be careful about letting his inner gunslinger out.
